EfD Policy Impact Award encourages policy-relevant research and stakeholder engagement
The EfD Policy Impact Award was presented for the third time at the EfD Annual Meeting in Nairobi in October 2024. The winners of the award were:
EfD researchers Richard Mulwa, Jane Mariara, Peter Kimuyu, Jackson Otieno, David Fuente, and Joe Cook, in collaboration with Mbutu Mwaura and Josiah Gitu, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company received it for Financing the transition to safe, affordable, and resilient water and sanitation services in Nairobi.
The motivation was:
For over a decade, the EfD Kenya research team has played an instrumental role in advancing water affordability and access in Nairobi through significant engagement and research collaboration with the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company. The team’s work led to crucial policy changes, including the reduction of water tariffs at public kiosks, benefitting approximately 31% of Nairobi’s population. Their efforts represent a remarkable example of how long-term research and policy engagement can lead to meaningful impacts on urban water services, befitting poor communities.
