EfD Initiative 2015-2019 EnvEcon Evaluation Report 2020

This evaluation follows from the 2014 evaluation of the Capacity Building Program (CBP) in Environmental Economics and the Environment for Development (EfD) Initiative led by the Environmental Economics Unit (EEU) at University of Gothenburg (UoG). This evaluation focuses on the period from 2015 to 2019, though acknowledgement is made of prior trends and evidence as part of the assessment of progress.

Central America and Mexico

Vision

To improve ecosystems' health, alleviate poverty, and foster inclusive sustainable development.

Areas of contribution

EfD-CAM's research focuses on the region's most pressing environmental and development issues such as water scarcity, coastal and marine management, and biodiversity protection.

India

Vision

To carry out in-depth economic research and analysis on the interlocking issues of climate change, energy security, environmental protection, gender and food security confronting India. The broad agenda behind the research is to contribute to policy-making through improved information and hard evidence.

Kenya

Vision

  • To be a center of excellence in environmental policy research.

Areas of Contribution

  • EfD-Kenya’s research focuses mainly on the following themes; Agriculture & Climate Change, Health, Water, Forestry, Extractives industries & Energy. Poverty alleviation is a recurring goal while observing an equality perspective.

Vision

The vision of REPRC-EfD Nigeria is to be a key research and policy engagement center in Sub-Saharan Africa with a major focus on Nigeria; training students that will act as change agents in Nigeria and the regional environment sector; implementing cutting-edge research that will have both local and global impact; while providing evidence-based input into policy formulation towards solving the myriads of environmental and economic development problems in Nigeria and the region.

Ethiopia

Vision

Our vision is to be a leading policy research center on the economics of climate and environment, contributing to Ethiopia’s sustainable and climate-resilient development.

Sweden

Vision

Research to provide empirical and theoretical evidence for promoting sustainable environmental policy through global and local studies in Sweden and various developing countries. A particular focus is on vulnerable groups and poverty alleviation, as well as emphasizing the gender perspective. Teaching to help with capacity-building throughout the EfD network.

China

Vision

To improve the well-being of disadvantaged groups in developing countries by mitigating excessive pollution and natural resource depletion, and to promote sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystem services by means of environmental policy instruments. This objective will be actively pursued with vibrant research, policy informing, and capacity-building activities.
