Household energy conservation in Kenya

Start date

Kenya is a rapidly growing country, with energy demands increasing annually.  Over-reliance on biomass energy within households has resulted in adverse environmental effects.  Forest cover has fallen to 6%, and as a result, water levels in rivers and dams have also fallen leading to an inconsistent electricity supply.  Energy conservation plays an important role in managing energy demands in rapidly growing countries such as Kenya. This study seeks to explore energy conservation in Kenya by applying discrete choice and Ordinary Least Squares method on the 2009 KIPPRA/Energy Regulatory Board’s data sets on energy consumption in order to determine effects of energy conservation on environmental quality in Kenya.
