The South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics, SANDEE, will celebrate a decade of research and training with a conference on ‘Environment and Development in South Asia' on December 6-7th 2010. Keynote speakers include Nobel Laureate Elinor Ostrom and Sir Partha Dasgupta. Professor Thomas Sterner from the EfD/Environmental Economics Unit, University of Gothenburg, will give a plenary session speech about the challenges to design climate agreements.
As South Asian countries struggle to balance economic growth, poverty reduction and environmental conservation goals, this conference offers an opportunity to learn from on-going research within and outside South Asia.
Randall Bluffstone, EfD Associate are among the some one hundred scholars and policy makers who are expected to congregate at this two-day event in Kathmandu to present their work and discuss the future research and training needs of the region. The session by Bluffstone is based on a paper co-authored by Alemu Mekonnen and titled Does common property forest management change on-farm behavior? Evidence on tree planting in highland Ethiopia.
Thomas Sterner´s plenary session is titled A global climate strategy: examining options and understanding limitation.
