Ihemezie, Eberechukwu Johnpaul

Dr Eberechukwu Johnpaul Ihemezie is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics (First Class) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, an MSc in Environment and Development (Distinction), and a PhD in Resource and Environmental Economics from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He previously worked as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at Aberystwyth Business School, Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK, and as a Research Associate in Social-Environmental-Technical Integration at Imperial College, London. His diverse research interests span the interactions between people and nature and sustainable natural resource management. Using an interdisciplinary mixed-methods approach from environmental social sciences, his work explores how people, businesses, and local communities can transform to ensure a just and sustainable future for our planet and its people. Over the past decade, his research has been at the interface between human values and biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, and nature valuation, mineral mining and ecosystems, addressing key questions around conservation effectiveness, socio-ecological systems, and nature-based solutions. Dr Ebere has also won many academic awards, including the Commonwealth Doctoral and Master's Scholarships, as well as institutional awards such as the Argelander Academy Grant at the Global Heritage Lab, University of Bonn, Germany.

 

Research Interests

Economic and social valuation of biodiversity and ecosystem services using a range of market and non-market valuation methods, including choice experiments, contingent valuation, and Q-methodology. Specific research interests focus on nature conservation, natural resource management, climate change finance & policy, human values and agro-environmental systems.
