Tibanywana, Julieth Julius

Julieth Julius Tibanywana is a PhD student in Economics at the University of Cape Town. Her research focuses on addressing water scarcity in urban Tanzania through Choice Experiment approaches and Randomized Control Trials (RCTs). She explores household preferences, behavioural interventions, and technological adoption to develop sustainable solutions. In addition to her PhD research, she is actively involved in non-PhD projects that examine carbon pricing of mangrove forests and the feedback effects of climate change on payments for ecosystem service contract adherence. Due to the significance of her PhD research, she was a visiting research student in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at the London School of Economics (UK) and Charles University (Czech Republic) in 2023 and 2024.

Beyond her doctoral studies, Julieth serves as an Assistant Lecturer at the School of Economics, University of Dar es Salaam, where she teaches Microeconomics, Public Finance, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, Quantitative Methods, and Econometrics. Her research and consultancy work primarily focus on environmental economics, natural resource management, and sustainability. She has contributed to numerous research projects and consultancies related to natural resources, climate change, and environmental policy.

Her areas of interest extend to energy economics, with a particular focus on water, mining, oil, and gas sectors. Additionally, she is skilled in data design, collection, and management, utilizing advanced mobile software tools such as Open Data Kit (ODK) to enhance research efficiency.

Julieth is passionate about evidence-based policymaking, environmental sustainability, and innovative economic solutions to pressing global challenges. She aims to further expand her research and impact in climate change economics, ecosystem services, and sustainable resource management.
