Acceptability surveys

One of the main obstacles in many countries for an effective climate policy is opposition to climate pricing. This is often based on views concerning distributional fairness between different groups in society. The opposition has come to be symbolized by the yellow vests in France who effectively blocked or at least delayed the rise in carbon taxes. Economic studies show that carbon taxes are not strongly regressive but rather neutral in Europe but the opposition is nevertheless strong. We have started to carry out surveys of opinion to understand better the nuances of opinion involved in various social strata. Our plan is to continue to carry out similar surveys in both Europe and internationally in the Global South.
