Ahead of the World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists (WCERE) 2026 Congress, the Sustainable Energy Transitions Initiative (SETI) organized a pre-conference workshop at NOVA School of Business and Economics. Around 35 researchers attended the event, where ten SETI fellows from several countries presented their latest work.
The workshop covered a wide range of topics related to sustainable energy transitions, including gender, clean cooking technologies, health, public policy design, and other emerging research themes.
Marc Jeuland, Co-director of SETI, commented that the event was “a good opportunity to hear about recent innovative work by SETI community members, and to interact in a more intimate setting before the very large conference got underway”.
Carlos Chávez, NENRE EfD-Chile fellow, attended the SETI workshop and pointed out that it was a great occasion to “learn about the current state of research in the field and to see promising work from young researchers”.

During the WCERE Congress, Carlos Chávez presented the research paper Exclusion and Common Pool Resource Management: Experimental Evidence, sharing experimental evidence on managing common pool resources and the dangers of "poaching".
Carlos Chávez also participated in several academic activities, including the Editorial Committee meeting of Environmental and Development Economics, where he serves as Co-Editor, alongside editors, associate editors, and members of the editorial board, to discuss the journal's latest editorial developments and future strategies. All while celebrating the journal’s 30th anniversary.
The upcoming virtual workshop
The SETI pre-conference workshop in Lisbon marked the first part of the 11th SETI Annual Meeting. Event that will continue with a Virtual Workshop on August 6-7, offering another opportunity for researchers, students, and practitioners interested in sustainable energy transitions to engage with the SETI community online.
