EfD Ethiopia (ECRC) organized Quantum Geographical Information System (QGIS) training in collaboration with Copenhagen University

The EfD-Ethiopia ( ECRC) and the Agriculture & Rural Development Policy Research Center (ARDPRC) in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen provided training on the Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) for the Policy Studies Institute(PSI) researchers and staff on 31 January 2023.  QGIS is a free and open-source cross-platform desktop geographic information system (GIS) application that supports viewing, editing, printing, and analysis of geospatial data.  The four-hour training covered basic GIS and map making; as well as raster and satellite data with the aim of using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), rainfall, and administrative shapefiles for Ethiopia. The training was provided by Peter Fisker (Assistant Professor), Department of Economics where he also provided exercises for the trainees to have a better understanding and navigation of the application. The training attracted researchers from various departments of PSI with positive feedback and requests to further continue such type of training.

This training is part of the Danida-financed project “Building Resilience to Climate Change in Ethiopia: Exploring Options for Action” that is jointly implemented by ECRC, ARDPRC, and the Development Economics Research Group (DERG) of the University of Copenhagen. The project aims to promote evidence-based policy in relation to the issue of disaster risk management and climate adaptation, which is being mainstreamed into the national development policy of Ethiopia.
