UiT The Arctic University of Norway

The Norwegian College of Fishery Science (NCFS) was established in 1973 and incorporated into UiT in 1988. The college aims to be a central provider of relevant and innovative knowledge for the sustainable development of the marine sector both in Norway and globally.

The NCFS is a multidisciplinary organization, and its research goals include understanding the biological, biotechnological, social, and economic relationships in marine systems. Based on this, NCFS produces knowledge on topics as diverse as the quality of seafood, ecosystem-based management, vaccines for fish, and the development of industry and society. Such a multidisciplinary focus is rewarding, and the NCFS research environment is characterized by a high level of activity and productive cooperation between researchers.

NCFS study programs, two bachelor's and three master's programs, are tailored to suit the needs of the seafood industry and management.

In addition to these core activities, the NCFS aspires to be a committed conveyor of knowledge. NCFS researchers actively participate in forums for debating social issues; they deliver lectures and publish books, articles, and contributions to newspapers. The industry, media, government, and others interested in our expertise are always welcome to contact us.
