Armstrong, Claire

Claire Winifred Armstrong is a professor in Natural Resource Economics and Management at the Norwegian College of Fishery Science, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, where she is a member of the Environmental and Resource Economics research group.

Her expertise is within bioeconomic modeling and ecosystem services, but she has broad interdisciplinary interests, mostly in marine environments, but also in terrestrial environments. Her research interests include environmental and development economics, fisheries and ecosystem management, and bioeconomic modeling.

Armstrong has been a partner in several EU projects pertaining to ocean issues (INCOFISH, PROTECT, HERMES, MEFEPO, HERMIONE, CORALFISH, and ATLAS), as well as a number of projects financed by the Research Council of Norway, and Norad – The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, amongst others. She is currently involved in research projects on the economics of biodegradable plastics in the ocean, ghost fishing, marine resource economics in developing countries, and interdisciplinary issues related to species interactions. Armstrong has published widely in both natural and social science academic journals.

Armstrong has also worked for the Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs with regard to OECD commitments related to rebuilding fisheries, and as member of a number of Norwegian governmentally appointed expert opinion committees. She is currently a member of several committees related to natural resource taxation in Norway.
