Onyenekwe, Chinasa Sylvia

Dr. Chinasa Sylvia Onyenekwe is a lecturer and a researcher in the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She obtained both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from University of Nigeria where she graduated with First Class Honours Division. She later proceeded to University of Ghana for her doctoral degree in Applied Agricultural Economics and Policy. Her PhD thesis was on the effects of climate shocks, environmental degradation and resource conflict on agricultural livelihoods and food security. Her professional experience include teaching, supervision, as well as conducting research on various societal issues. Also, she has experience in handling administrative duties having chaired some committees and served as a member in several others.  She has published papers in both local and international peer-reviewed journals as well as attended and presented papers at national and international academic conferences. She belongs to several professional bodies such as International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE), Nigeria Association of Agricultural Economists (NAAE), Agricultural Policy Research Network (APRNet). Research Interest

Onyenekwe’s research interest includes a range of Resource and Environmental, Agricultural, and Economic Policy Issues with a focus on natural resources, climate change, pollution, energy issues; Gender and Development; agrifood systems, poverty and food security issues and Rural Development issues.

Mentoring

I have successfully supervised 5 undergraduate projects and currently supervising a master's thesis in Resource and Environmental Economics and 2 undergraduate students.
