Nkurunziza, Joseph

Dr. Joseph Nkurunziza is a Lecturer in the School of Economics at the University of Rwanda, an academic leader, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Research in Environmental Economics, Sustainability and Policy (CREESP), hosting the Environment for Development (EfD) initiative in Rwanda. His research has significantly advanced the understanding of environmental economics and sustainability in Sub-Saharan Africa. His scholarly work spans climate change, agricultural resilience, and human development, with recent publications examining the impact of climate change on human mobility, cereal yields, and the broader political economy of sustainability. Dr. Nkurunziza has also contributed to studies on urban waste management in Kigali, the political economy of plastic packaging in African cities, and the estimation of water demand for Rwandan households. Through these projects, he integrates advanced statistical modeling with applied policy analysis, offering evidence-based solutions to environmental and developmental issues. His leadership and research continue to foster regional collaboration, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote sustainable pathways for economic growth and social welfare.
