Maina , Kevin

Kevin W. Maina is an agricultural and development economist with a PhD in Agricultural and Development Economics from the University of Bonn, where his research focused on the adoption and impacts of animal health management practices in Kenya’s dairy sector. He has over seven years of experience working in research and development.

Kevin's expertise lies in impact evaluation, behavioral and experimental economics, as well as the development and application of choice experiments to inform institutional innovations and scaling strategies. He has worked extensively with renowned international research organizations, including the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), the World Vegetable Center, and the Alliance Bioversity & CIAT. His research has addressed critical issues such as seed systems, gender dynamics, and the transformation of agri-food systems in Sub-Saharan Africa, translating research into actionable policy strategies.

His recent work has explored the unintended environmental and social consequences of livestock intensification, gender dynamics in forage adoption, and sustainable consumption practices in agri-food systems. Kevin is particularly interested in research-policy interaction and systems approaches to foster sustainable transitions in agri-food systems in the Global South.

Proficient in advanced analytical tools, including R, Stata, and GAMS, Dr. Maina continues to contribute to high-impact academic publications addressing complex issues around food systems.
