Strategies to ‘de-risk’ green hydrogen investment in the Global South
EfD South Africa researchers collaborated with UNU-MERIT to study methods to de-risk green hydrogen investment. The team involves researchers in Brazil, Chile, China, and South Africa. They examined Chile and South Africa’s green hydrogen projects and their potential risks.
De-risking the investments is necessary for green hydrogen development in developing countries. They found that facilitating discussions between private and public decision-makers, subsidizing infrastructure, and international risk-sharing are important factors.
