EfD Rwanda organized a validation workshop for the Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) Postgraduate Diploma Programme at EfD Rwanda. The workshop took place on May 19, and the program is scheduled to be launched in September/October 2026.
EfD Rwanda is hosted by the Centre for Research in Environmental Economics, Sustainability and Policy (CREESP) at the University of Rwanda, College of Business and Economics. The workshop, held at the University of Rwanda, Gikondo Campus, brought together key stakeholders, including government institutions, development partners such as the World Bank, academia, environmental and social safeguard practitioners, and the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA).
The participants reviewed and validated the curriculum, providing valuable recommendations to strengthen its relevance and practical orientation.
Key highlights:
- Strong endorsement of the program to address national capacity gaps in environmental and social safeguards.
- Recommendations to enhance the curriculum content included new modules on, among others, Land Acquisition & Resettlement and Compliance Audit, and implementation arrangements such as staffing, training-of-trainers, and partnerships with key stakeholders, for instance, the Rwanda Association of Professional Environmental Practitioners (RAPEP), REMA, and the World Bank.
- The program was officially validated, subject to incorporation of the stakeholders’ inputs, ahead of submission to the Higher Education Council (HEC) for accreditation.
This initiative reflects EfD Rwanda’s commitment to evidence-based capacity development and bridging the gap between research, policy, and practice in environmental sustainability.
