EfD researchers will present findings on rural and urban water systems at EAERE 2023

Researchers from the EfD centers of Central America, Chile, Ghana, and Kenya, will participate in the thematic session titled Water Economics and Policy in low-and-middle-income Countries on June 30, at the 28th Annual Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) 2023, taking place in Limassol, Cyprus. 

The session is being organized by EfD's Collaborative Group on Water Systems, hosted by the Natural Capital Collaborative (NatCAP). The research to be presented is based on surveys, experiments, and econometric analyses and explores facets of water policy in the Global South on urban and rural water pricing, drought, water reliability, and household bill affordability. 

Cover several perspectives on water systems

The following four oral presentations will be part of the thematic session:

  • Exploring patterns of water bill payment behavior and debt in Nairobi, Kenya, by Ana Espinola-Arredondo, Joseph Cook, David Fuente, and Mary Tiana Randriamaro. 
  • Quantifying the tradeoffs of rate-setting objectives in the residential water sector. A case study in Chile, by Felipe Vasquez Lavin, Roberto Ponce, and Alejandra Chovar. 
  • Determinants of adoption of volumetric pricing in rural water systems, by Roger Madrigal, Katrina Mullan, Eduardo Pacay, Subhrendu K. Pattanayak, and Pablo Evia. 
  • A Distribution Analysis of Ghana's COVID Free Water Programme, by Joseph Cook, David Fuente, Anthony Amoah, and Franklin Amuakwa-Mensah. 

 

About the EAERE 2023 Conference
The 28th Annual Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) will take place in Limassol. This year the Conference is organized by The Cyprus Institute, the Cyprus University of Technology, and the Department of Economics of the University of Cyprus under the auspices of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts.
