The Environment and Climate Research Center (ECRC), EfD Ethiopia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to work together in a number of areas to promote green growth in the country.
The areas of collaboration include among others: Low-carbon development; joint delivery of technical assistance and advisory service to the government of Ethiopia; sharing and disseminating institutional knowledge and experience on research, policy, institutional frameworks, and organization and implementation of green growth strategies through joint publications, workshops, conferences, and seminars.
The event took place at the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) office on Friday, 2 September 2022. Professor Beyene Petros, the Executive Director of PSI signed the agreement on behalf of ECRC while the GGGI was represented by the country representative, Gemedo Dalle (Ph.D.).
Beyene Petros said the MoU with GGGI is a good partnership for influencing policy and crafting projects on green developments in Ethiopia. He said that the institute is proud to produce research outputs and policy briefs with ECRC, to influence policy. He also commended the efforts ECRC is making to ensure its financial sustainability by working with various international partners.
“Collaborative agreements such as this one are important for the center and we appreciate that GGGI has shown an interest in working with the ECRC/PSI team,” he said.
Gemedo Dalle, the country representative of GGGI, noted that PSI is strategically positioned to conduct policy advice to the government and GGGI is pleased to collaborate with this institution to have an impact on policy.
GGGI was one of the institutions that participated in the creation of Ethiopia’s Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy in 2011. Gemedo Dalle is hopeful that the new partnership with ECRC/PSI will reinvigorate the symbiotic relationship between the two institutions to do great things in devising policy research and climate change-related projects.
The event was attended by the management team of the two institutions where the official signing ceremony took place.
