Event Information
Deadline: March 31, 2025.
Environment and Development Economics is pleased to announce a special issue focused on the political economy of clean air transitions, to be guest edited by Jorge Alexander Bonilla from Universidad de Los Andes and Rohini Somanathan from the Delhi School of Economics. This issue will explore case studies on policies aimed at improving urban air quality in emerging economies, particularly emphasizing the political and institutional dynamics that influence policy-making and implementation. Researchers are invited to submit papers that delve into the challenges and successes of clean air transitions in cities of the global South, where issues like weak governance and limited resources often complicate efforts to adopt clean fuel and efficient public transport systems.
The submission deadline is 31 March 2025, though early submissions are encouraged and will be processed upon receipt. Papers should focus on a particular policy reform, addressing the political and institutional factors that either enabled or hindered its success. Submissions may be qualitative or include quantitative analyses and should be submitted online through the journal’s submission portal here. In the submission process, authors are asked to select "Clean Air" in the “Special Issue” field and mention "The Political Economy of Clean Air Transitions" in their cover letter. For additional details, contributors can reach out directly to the guest editors via email: Jorge Alexander Bonilla at jobonill@uniandes.edu.co and Rohini Somanathan at rohini@econdse.org.
