Event Information
Welcome to the microsite for the Twenty-Third International Conference on Environmental, Cultural, Economic & Social Sustainability, taking place 20–22 January 2027 in Johannesburg, South Africa, and online, hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of the Witwatersrand. This space brings together abstracts, presentations, schedules, media, and commentary across in-person and online participation, supporting meaningful interaction among scholars, practitioners, policymakers, designers, educators, and community leaders engaged with sustainability from a holistic perspective.
The conference’s special focus, “Innovating for Sustainable Futures,” explores how societies imagine, design, and enact transitions toward more just, resilient, and inclusive futures across environmental, cultural, economic, and social dimensions. The content gathered here reflects both this focus and the Network’s ongoing themes, connecting preparation, presentation, reflection, and publication into a continuous conference experience. Grounded in Johannesburg’s dynamic urban and regional context and extended through online participation, the microsite supports sustained dialogue on sustainability challenges and pathways for action across diverse local and global settings.
