Kebede, Selamawit G/Egziabher

Selamawit is a research fellow at the EfD Early-Career Fellowship program. She is an assistant professor in Development Economics in Ethiopia and a researcher at the Poverty and Social Welfare Research Centre, at PSI the former EDRI. She has engaged in several interdisciplinary research programs. Her research has focused on  Poverty and Growth; Dietary patterns and gaps; Food System for a sustainable healthy diet in Ethiopia with environmental factors as one pillar factor; Agriculture-based industry and its linkage with other sectors; Acute and chronic child malnutrition; Public policy instruments and manufacturing industry growth: The case of tax and government expenditure; Political economy of Industrialization and Industrial Parks in Ethiopia; Foreign aid dynamics in Ethiopia; Institutions as success pillars for Ethiopian Airlines and recently investigating an impact evaluation study on Ethiopian Industry Park spillover in the Local Economy.

With 13 plus years of teaching experience in a government university, she has delivered different Economics courses such as Development Economics, Agricultural Economics, Monetary Policy, Public Finance, Microeconomics, Calculus for Economists, Mathematical Economics, Economics for Engineering, Econometrics, Institution, and Development, Poverty and Development, Project Planning, Project Resource Management, etc. Yet, she has prepared teaching handbooks and reading materials, engaged in paper advising, and evaluated students as internal and external reviewer. Selamawit also has a position of trust in coordinating the Department of Economics at Bahir Dar University (2013-2015), and was Academic Commission (AC) member for two years, at Bahir Dar University (2013-2015). Chairperson for Microeconomics and Agriculture Module (2013), Project advisor of graduating students in Development Economics in the Department of Economics, at Bahir Dar University (2020).  Organizer of the first African Productivity Conference (ISEAPA) (2021) and is guest editor for a special issue of the Journal of Productivity Analysis on efficiency, productivity, and growth in Africa (2022). She has also been actively engaged in different research projects of IDRC, UNDP, GRIPS, and others focusing on multidimensional poverty and development issues.
