Kalokola, Ritha Daniel

Dr. Ritha Daniel Kalokola is a Lecturer at the Institute of Resource Assessment (IRA) and Centre for Climate Change Studies, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She holds a PhD in Natural Resource Management and Assessment and has academic training in Climate Change and Sustainable Development and Economics.

Her research lies at the intersection of environmental economics, climate governance, and sustainable development, with particular emphasis on resilience, loss and damage, climate finance, gendered adaptation strategies, coastal and marine systems, and wildlife conservation. Her work critically examines how institutions, governance arrangements, and socio-economic structures shape climate adaptation outcomes in Tanzania and across sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr. Kalokola has served as a National Delegate to the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (SBSTA and SBI) in Bonn, contributing to negotiations on adaptation, mitigation, and climate finance. She is also actively engaged in media and policy platforms, including the BBC Media Action NC5 Steering Committee, translating climate research into accessible public discourse.

She is passionate about mentoring young scholars, strengthening the research–policy interface, and advancing Africa’s voice in global environmental and climate governance.
