The Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension and Rural Development is embarking on a strategic plan to lead the transformation of African agricultural and food systems through leading influential research and

 as we transition from the Sustainable Development Goals to the next development era post-2030. The Department seeks a Senior Environmental Economics Lecturer to join our dynamic team in this endeavour and build a solid research programme that addresses critical contemporary issues in environmental science in Africa

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Teaching postgraduate applied microeconomics, macroeconomics and environmental/natural resource economics;
  • Supervising postgraduates in fields relevant to econometrics and environmental/natural resource economics;
  • Supervising fourth-year agricultural economics research projects;
  • Conducting research and publishing articles in leading accredited journals in the above fields; Raising funds to support existing research programmes and/or initiate new ones in the above fields; Academic administration.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appropriate Masters and Doctoral degrees;
  • Evidence of publications in accredited journals relevant to the above fields;
  • Evidence of successful supervision / co-supervision of Masters students or the mentoring of staff;
  • At least three years teaching and/or research experience in fields relevant to micro/macroeconomics and/or environmental/natural resource economics.
  • ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Experience and skills in advanced statistical analysis with a recognised international statistical package (preferably R-programing);
  • The ability to develop a world-class research programme;
  • Able to demonstrate innovation in teaching, experience in blended learning delivery and the use of technology for improving learner throughput;
  • Able to demonstrate innovation and present new ideas on how to expand research capacity in the relevant field;
  • Evidence of active participation in a network of researchers in Africa and/or internationally.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
