The Environment for Development (EfD) is a unit at the School of Business, Economics, and Law at the University of Gothenburg. EfD is also a global network of environmental economics research centers primarily based in the Global South. The overall objective of EfD is to support poverty alleviation and sustainable development by building environmental economics’ capacity for policy-making processes. EfD has centers hosted by academic institutions in Central America, Chile, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam. EfD was launched in 2007 by the Environmental Economics Unit at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. EfD continues to work in close partnership with the Department of Economics, which has around 100 employees and 800 students. The collaboration is particularly strong with the research groups in environmental, behavioral, and development economics.

 

Job assignments

EfD is developing new educational programs utilizing blended learning and e-platforms. This role focuses on the development and administration of capacity-building programs. Specific responsibilities include:

1. A) Support the creation and introduction of blended learning materials:

Facilitate the creation of online learning environments and e-platform. Assist in benchmarking activities for EfD’s capacity-building programs. Record and edit video and sound for online learning material.

Coach and assist teachers and instructors in designing, producing, and using blended learning activities and material.

1. B) Pedagogical research support:

Assisting in data collection, analysis, and visualization related to the capacity-building programs at EfD.

1. C) Management and administration:

Assisting in developing and maintaining process documents and policies relevant to the programs. Facilitation and support of virtual and real-life meetings.

General administration, planning, and reporting (for example activity reports and indicators).

1. D) Responsible for a student-centered perspective:

Making the voices of students and prospective students heard in the development and delivery of EfD’s capacity building programs, including by:

creating and maintaining groups of student representatives and ensuring their participation in relevant meetings. managing student surveys to provide insights relevant to the programs.

Taking the student’s perspective in analyzing and suggesting improvements to program designs.

Mapping and including the perspectives of potential future employers of students. This includes a “future job-market analysis” for selected EfD programs and building relationships with a selection of potential employers for internships and thesis work opportunities.

 

Qualifications

This role requires an interdisciplinary background with key skills in pedagogics, process support, or collaboration with diverse groups in work relevant for EfD.

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree that is relevant for the position, for example in pedagogics, sustainability science, or environmental economics.

Project management and administrative skills. Experience in pedagogical work.

Some professional experience in blended learning methods and approaches. Experience in production of digital media elements.

Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English and Swedish.

Merits:

Computer skills, for example, editing websites, database management, use of software for statistical analysis, and creating visualizations.

A second university degree within a different, but to EfD’s domain relevant, discipline. An active interest in, and some knowledge of Economics.

International educational experiences.

Previous work experience in the field of development assistance.

An active interest in the environment and poverty alleviation in the Global South.

Personal suitability is of importance for this role. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team is also important.

Employment

The employment is a temporary employment during one year with an extent of 100 % of full time, located at Environment for Development. Starting date is 2021-09-01 or upon agreement.

The location of employment is Gothenburg and even if the university now works remotely, the applicant is expected, when restrictions ease, to be able to work on-site at the unit.
