EfD Nigeria has been selected as one of six centers that will receive a research support grant to build sustainable and synergistic Evidence-Informed Policymaking (EIP) ecosystems in East and West Africa.
The project is funded by the Hewlett Foundation and implemented by the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP), an organization dedicated to strengthening policy research and advisory services across Africa.
“Congratulations are truly in order—your application was selected from nearly 200 submissions by research organizations across the region,” c, the Director of Engagement and Impact at PEP, wrote in a message she sent to the Director of EfD Nigeria and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria.
The three-year project aims to enhance the capacity of EfD Nigeria and government institutions to improve the use of evidence in policy formulation.
Key objectives of the project include improving the ability of research centers to think and work politically, providing real-time evidence-informed policymaking advice, and fostering collaborative frameworks between research centers and government bodies to ensure critical policy decisions are backed by solid evidence.
The Director of EfD Nigeria, Prof. Nnaemeka Chukwuone, said that the PEP grant will further enhance the position of the center as a key player in advancing evidence-based policymaking in Nigeria and the wider African region.
“The program is expected to catalyze stronger collaboration between researchers and policymakers that will lead to more informed policies on environmental and resource management challenges that are critical to sustainable development,” Nnaemeka Chukwuone said.
