Theme: Sustaining Natural Capital: Policy Strategies for Sustainable Agriculture and Urban Water Systems

The 2025 Policy Day of EfD Nigeria will convene policymakers, researchers, and development stakeholders to deliberate on evidence-based pathways for strengthening Nigeria’s natural capital, agricultural systems, and urban water management. As environmental pressures intensify, which is driven by population growth, climate variability, and infrastructure gaps, Nigeria faces urgent decisions on how to secure food systems and improve water access for urban and peri-urban communities.

This year’s Policy Day will feature presentations from ongoing EfD-supported research, including:

  1. Coping with Water Scarcity, Preferences and Willingness to Pay for Water Supply in Enugu, Nigeria
  2. “Gender and Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA): Improving Food Security and Reducing Poverty Among Cassava Farmers in Nigeria

The Policy Day will bring together stakeholders from government ministries and agencies, the legislature, academia, NGOs, private sector actors, farmer groups, and water user associations. Through interactive dialogues, the event will explore practical strategies for enhancing water governance, promoting gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture, and strengthening the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s natural capital.

EfD Nigeria will also hold a strategic meeting with members of its Policy Advisory Panel to review research-to-policy engagement approaches, strengthen partnerships, and refine mechanisms for translating evidence into actionable policy outcomes.
