Biodiversity plays a key role in sustaining the functioning of ecosystems and thus in the provision of ecosystem services. A great deal of biodiversity is to be found in private forests, thus the way in which these forests are managed has major implications for biodiversity.
Unfortunately, the supply of biodiversity usually goes unrewarded by markets, and protecting it comes at an opportunity cost to forest owners. This study examines forest values among different forest stakeholders in Sweden by conducting a choice experiment (CE) involving citizens, non-industrial private forest owners, and forest officials working for the government, forest companies, and forest owners’ associations.
