Three win the  EfD Policy Impact Award during the 16th EfD Annual meeting in Uganda

 

Three research teams were on 25th September 2022 awarded the EfD Policy Impact Award during the 16th EfD Annual meeting held at the Speke Resort Hotel Munyonyo Kampala Uganda. The award is to recognize and incentivize policy impact of EfD Research.

The selection criteria was based on the condition that the research project or policy engagement activities should have documented impact in terms of change in legislation, policy or other drivers that deliver reduced poverty andmore sustainable management of the environment and natural resources.

The winners include Prof. Wisdom Akpalu  from EfD Ghana,  a respected fisheries economist and a successful champion for transparency and novel approaches to address harmful practices in the fisheries sector in Ghana. The results of his research have been frequently featured in media and he has had an important influence in shifting the policy dialogue within industry and the government

The other winner:, Prof. Jorge Dresdner from EfD Chile  is a highly regarded expert who has built up trust with key stakeholders and government representatives over the past 20 years. The EfD Chile team, including Prof. Dresdner, Prof. Carlos Chávez, Dr. Miguel Quiroga, and Dr. César Salazar, are frequently engaged to provide the analytical underpinnings needed for the analyses and evaluations by government and international bodies of the fisheries industry in Chile.

Then, Dr. Pham Khanh Nam and colleagues at the EfD center in Vietnam have played an instrumental role in the inclusion of market-based instruments in Vietnam´s new environmental protection law that came into force in 2021. Building on the significant knowledge within the EfD network on policy instrument design, the team has effectively interacted with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in the drafting of the new law.
