EfD Kenya held a workshop on the Inclusive Green Economy (IGE) program to present the National Policy Review (NPR) draft and the IGE project concept note to relevant stakeholders. The guests gave some positive responses, and also some valuable suggestions.
The IGE fellows, that is, the participants in the program, presented the visions, strategies, and policy instruments connected to Inclusive Green Economy in the workshop, which took place on 31st August 2021 at the National Safari Club, Nairobi-Kenya.
They also presented the NPR, which identified the level of acceptance of IGE policies among different stakeholders and provided a basis for critical analysis on the current use of policy instruments and gaps in a transition to a greener and more inclusive economy.
The stakeholders who attended the meeting are involved in key green economy issues such as agriculture, forestry, energy, water, and the urban sector (infrastructure, transport, and housing). They got a chance to comment on gaps and share their thoughts on the impact of policy instruments for the improvement of the final NPR report and project concept note.
Among the positive responses on the IGE policy review were; adequate policy instruments, well-described challenges, well-mapped actors and stakeholders, and a clear vision.
They also recommended that the Ministry of ICT (Innovation and Youth Affairs) and Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife should be involved as they would be affected and should have a voice in the IGE process.
This event was part of the activities within the program Inclusive Green Economy (IGE) in Practice for Senior Civil Servants in East Africa taking place in Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
The IGE fellows are senior officers from the Ministry of Planning and they include Anne Wanjiru (Team leader), Isaiah Byegon, Dickson Murira, Jackson Kiprono, and William Komu. They are supported by the Kenyan IGE team comprising Prof. Richard Mulwa (Center Director), Dr. Jackson Otieno (Senior Research Fellow), Dr. Helen Hoka (Policy Engagement Specialist), and Dr. Michael Ndwiga (Policy Engagement Specialist).
