The University of Dar es Salaam has been organizing the Research and Innovation Week which is also known as Research Week (RW) annually to showcase competitive research results. The aim is to bring together diverse groups of researchers to share creative research work and highlight some of their best research outputs and innovations. This year the event was held from 19th to 21st May 2021 at the University of Dar es Salaam Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Campus.

The Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa was impressed by the research displayed in various pavilions and said he will be glad to see higher learning institutions bring what they think is the right way to address various challenges facing the country through research and innovation.

He said that the government was committed to supporting innovation and research in various sectors, and a formula is being worked upon to ensure that the youth, especially graduates, participate fully in research activities.

“It is time for graduate students and academic staff to take the leading role in research,” commented Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.

“They should be a source of well-researched policies and provide solutions to community problems,” he said.

“We need to understand that studying helps in developing reading habits, and is also loaded with opportunities that if recognized can be of considerable importance to the country,” he said.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Joyce Ndalichako.

“The Ministry is working on strategies to visualize, identify and develop innovations and discoveries made by Tanzanians especially those at the grassroots level,” she said.
