Coordinator of Women in Environmental Economics for Development visited EfD India

Maria del Pilar Lopez, Coordinator of the EfD collaborative Women in Environmental Economics for Development, WinEED, visited EfD India to meet with researchers to discuss their work and issues that women in Economics are facing. They also addressed how WinEED can assist in finding synergies and give support.

The meeting took place on  July 29th, 2022  at the Centre for research on the Economics of Climate, Food, Energy and Environment (CECFEE), EfD’s Indian Center at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Delhi.

Gender issues must be highlighted

Senior EfD India members Mudit Kapoor, Ridhima Gupta, and Eshita Gupta brought their extensive experience to the discussion highlighting the shortcoming in the ongoing research on gender. Mudit Kapoor cautioned that gender should not be treated as a mere indicator variable in the regressions and that it needs more careful thought and analysis.

Mentorship is important

EfD junior researcher Nikita Sangwan, shared her experiences from the EfD Early Career Fellowship Program and the need for mentoring programs for female researchers to support their transition from research students to faculty.

Tanu Gupta, EfD junior researcher highlighted the need for capacity-building interventions. The session was also joined by current Ph.D. researchers at ISI (Ahana Basistha, Priyanka Datta, and Ravinder). They discussed the bottlenecks faced in terms of access to information about funding opportunities.

The meeting provided an ideal platform for very engaging and fruitful discussions with different levels of researchers and an exchange of experiences. The researchers look forward eagerly to future collaborations with WinEED.
