Carriazo, Fernando

Fernando Carriazo is Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, and research Fellow of EfD Colombia. He holds a PhD in Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Economics from Penn State University (2007).  

Research interests 

His current research interest include the estimation of benefits from pollution control policies, the economics of spatial externalities and environmental urban policies, and urban-rural linkages and their role in regional development. 

His research methods include spatial econometrics and non-market valuation techniques using both revealed and stated preferences methods. 

Mentoring 

In recent years he has served as an advisor of at least 10 Master Thesis.

He has also served as an advisor and tutor of several undergrad monographs.  

 

Grants 

Latin American and Caribbean Environmental Economics Program. Research Grant for the project “The demand for air quality: A case study in Bogotá-Colombia.” 

Policy engagement 

Participation in three consulting projects with policy interactions: 

Cities, Territories, and Inclusive Growth: Unraveling Urban–Rural Linkages in Chile, Colombia, and Mexico was a project with high level of policy interactions with the Colombian Department of National Planning. An article from this project is in https://doi.org/10.1016/j.worlddev.2014.12.013  

 
He has also participated in a research team with the National University of Colombia for a consulting project on the application of non market valuation techniques for the Colombia General Accounting Office.  

At present he is working on a project that aims to modify the legislation on land use planning in Colombia in order to comply with Colombia's commitments with the Paris Agreement. This project is lead by Fedesarrollo and has strong policy interactions with the Ministry of housing, Ministry of the environment and other local planning authorities.
