Bulte, Erwin

Erwin Bulte is the Chair of Section Economics and Professor of Development Economics at Wageningen University and Research. He is also a fellow of the Department of Land Economy (University of Cambridge) and The Oxford Center for the Analysis of Resource-Rich Economies (OxCarre, Oxford University). In addition, he is collaborating with IFPRI in the field of inclusive value chain development.

Erwin’s work uses large-scale experiments in Africa and Asia to research the relationship between institutions and economic growth. Together with his team, he investigated the relationship between violence, altruism, and economic growth in civil war-ravaged Burundi. In rural areas of Sierra Leone and Liberia, he has conducted research into the influence of local government and corruption on the effectiveness of development aid and investment choices.
