Fifth Chilean EfD Workshop on Environmental and Natural Resource Economics and Fourth Short Course to Policy Makers

Research Nucleus in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at the University of Concepción is organizing the Fifth Workshop on Environmental and Natural Resource Economics,  5th and 6th October 2017, and the Fourth Short course to policy makers on “Compliance and Enforcement of Environmental Policy and Management of Natural Resources”, 4th October 2017. It will take place at Termas de Catillo, Maule Region in Chile.

Land and forest tenure reforms workshop in Ethiopia, February 21-22, 2011

Land reforms have played a central role in the political economy of many countries in the world and have been subject to massive disagreements between different political interest groups and ideologies. EfD funded project aims to draw lessons from land reforms in several African and Asian countries. The findings will be presented in a book edited by Professors Stein Holden and Keijiro Otsuko, entitled Land Tenure Reforms: Impacts on Poverty and Natural Resource Management. What Can We Learn?

Environmental policy instruments must be used to deal with global environmental problems

Global environmental problems can be addressed by means of policy instruments such as carbon dioxide taxes, building and technology standards and support for new technology, but the issues are complex and several environmental problems must be addressed simultaneously in order to achieve optimal effect. Looking for leverage in the ocean plastics crisis

Government officials from Ghana and Liberia conduct a PES study tour in Costa Rica

A group of technicians and researchers from the governments of Ghana and Liberia conduct a study tour at EfD Central America host institution CATIE. The objective of the visit was to learn about experiences with Payments for Environmental Services and other incentives to promote the conservation of natural resources that are implemented in agricultural landscapes in the country.

Prospects and Challenges for Harnessing Demographic Dividend in Tanzania: A Window of Opportunity

EfD Tanzania researchers, Dr. John Mduma and Dr. Wilhelm Ngasamiaku, in collaboration with researchers from University of Dar es Salaam and African Institute for Development Policy carried a study on Prospects and Challenges of Harnessing Demographic Dividend in Tanzania. The study was commissioned and funded under the USAID project titled Evidence to Action for Strengthening Reproductive Health through Pathfinder International Tanzania.
