Determinants of Successful Participatory Forest Management in Tanzania - Policy Brief

Policy Brief

On Wednesday 10th December 2008, Environment for Development Tanzania held a policy workshop in Dar es Salaam to discuss with key stakeholders the findings from their recently completed research project that addresses the determinants of successful participatory forest management in Tanzania.

Attending the workshop were 15 participants from government and non government institutions. These are Tanzania Forest conservation Group (TFCG), Research on Poverty alleviation (REPOA), Tanzania Forest research Institute (TAFORI), National Environment Management Council (NEMC), Vice-President Office – Division of Environment, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.

The opening introduction was made by Dr. Adolf Mkenda Associate Dean Academics, after which Dr Razack Lokina and Dr Elizabeth Robinson presented key findings from their projects, summarized in a policy brief and future areas of research. The closing remarks was given by Dr. L Rutasitara the Head Department of Economics University of Dare es Salaam.
