Research Officer/Researcher

At the Department of Economics, Environmental Economics Unit The School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg hereby announces a position as research officer/researcher at the Department of Economics, Environmental Economics Unit. The position is a full time position, to be filled as soon as possible. Application before August 1. REF NR E 352 2668/10

A Sida-funded programme – the “Environment for Development (EfD)” initiative – was launched in 2007. The main components of the initiative are support for environmental economics centers in six countries (China, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa and Tanzania), thematic research together with these centers, and policy impact based on the research.

Coordination of the initiative takes place at EEU and in close collaboration with the existing Sida-funded capacity building programme that has been running since 1991. For more information about the program, please see http://www.environmentfordevelopment.org/

Tasks:
• Provide advice to EfD research fellows in developing research proposals for poverty-oriented environmental economics research in developing countries.
• Evaluate and organize reviews of submitted EfD research proposals.
• Develop project concept notes and proposals in collaboration with research teams from EfD research centers and others.
• Follow-up of ongoing research projects in each country
• Prepare annual and other reports.
• Organize research workshops and annual meetings.
• Networking with relevant stakeholders.
• Run his/her own environment-development related research.

The person:
• PhD in economics oriented towards environment and development, experience with environmental economics capacity building, and experience of research in developing countries are all preferable characteristics. An interest and commitment to environment, development and capacity building is important.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment and a good team player.

Period:
• The appointment is initially for two years with possibility for at least two years extension, all dependent on necessary (and expected) decisions by Sida.
