By looking at how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria are used in investment decision making, we found that most socially responsible investment products and responsible investment strategies largely focus on infrastructure, development, and black economic empowerment.</description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>karinbackteman</dc:creator> <dc:rights>Stéphanie Giamporcaro, Lise Pretorius and Martine Visser (2010),"Responsible Investment: A Vehicle for Environmentally Sustainable Economic Growth in South Africa"EfD Discussion Paper 10-17, Environment for Development Initiative and Resources for the Future, Washington DC, June 2010. </dc:rights> <dc:subject>Strategic environmental assessment</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Investment</dc:subject> <dc:date>2010-07-01T10:53:49Z</dc:date> <dc:type>Article</dc:type> </item>

However, quantifying these “services” is difficult and most research in this field has concentrated on artificial treatment wetlands. Understanding the value of their water treatment characteristics, as well as the other services they provide, is increasingly recognized as essential to achieving a balance between conservation and activities that degrade or replace wetlands. </description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>karinbackteman</dc:creator> <dc:rights>Jane Turpie, Elizabeth Day, Vere Ross-Gillespie, and Anton Louw (2010) "Estimation of the Water Quality Amelioration Value of Wetlands: A Case Study of the Western Cape, South Africa"EfD Discussion Paper 10-15, Environment for Development Initiative and Resources for the Future, Washington DC, June 2010. </dc:rights> <dc:subject>Ecosystems</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Wetlands</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Valuation</dc:subject> <dc:date>2010-06-30T12:29:59Z</dc:date> <dc:type>Article</dc:type> </item>

The country passed a plastic bag tax (effective 2007) to curb the plastic bag demand. Interestingly, the legislation did not force retailers to charge for plastic bags, which they did voluntarily at different prices.</description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>karinbackteman</dc:creator> <dc:rights>Johane Dikgang and Martine Visser (2010), “Behavioral Response to Plastic Bag Legislation in Botswana”, EfD Discussion Paper 10-13, Environment for Development Initiative and Resources for the Future, Washington DC, May 2010.</dc:rights> <dc:subject>Regulation</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Environmental fiscal reform</dc:subject> <dc:subject>Country environmental analysis</dc:subject> <dc:date>2010-06-04T15:12:11Z</dc:date> <dc:type>Article</dc:type> </item>
