Policy Interaction
EfD Kenya works closely with the government, non-governmental organizations, and public universities among other institutions to adopt robust policy making processes in Kenya.
Highlights in 2010;
EfD-Kenya actively participated in the preparation of the Kenya State of Environment (SoE) Report. Preparation of the SoE 2010 report was spearheaded by United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP) and National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
EfD-K participated in the preparation of the Kenya Economic Report (KER) 2010.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has identified EfD Kenya as a strategic partner in the work to transform environmental governance in East Africa. The center partnered with WWF to assess the extent of environmental mainstreaming into planning and budgetary processes in Kenya, and to look at the impacts of trade and investment policies on environment and natural resource management in the country.
Highlights in 2011:
Action Plan (AP) for the National Climate Change Response Strategy (NCCRS)
EfD-K is involved in the development of the AP. It is working in jointly with Adam Smith International in sub-component 8 of the process, tasked with designing a financial mechanism for attracting and utilizing climate change funds. This process is being overseen by the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources (MEMR).
European Report on Development 2012
EfD-K was involved in the process of develping this report being coordinated by Oversees Development Institute (ODI), European Centre for Development Policy Management (ecdpm), European Union (EU) and German Development Institute. The focus of the report is on 'effective natural resource management for inclusive and sustainable growth in the context of increased scarcity and climate change: what role for the public and private sector'.
Other collaborative initiatives have also been established with CYMMT AND ReSAKSS under ILRI.
