WCERE Pre-conference Workshop for women in Environmental Economics

EfD is arranging a pre-conference workshop for women in Environmental Economics, ahead of the 6th World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists (WCERE) 2018 in Gothenburg.  The purpose is to support and encourage early career women pursuing careers in the domain of EfD, which is environmental economics applied to policy questions in developing countries, especially in countries with EfD centers. 

EfD Kenya Research and Policy workshop 2015

Environment for Development Kenya held a Research and Policy workshop on November 20th, 2015 in Nairobi.  The main objective of the workshop was to share ongoing research by EfD-Kenya and KIPPRA teams as well as engage stakeholders in discussion of future policy research options.

Grant Management Training in Nairobi

Staff from EfD Kenya and the School of Economics recently attended a training on Grant Management offered by Capacity Africa Training Institute. Mr. Matthew Nyamu and Ms. Maimuna Kabatesi attended this training which took place from 13th  to 15th August at the Hennessis Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.

EfD Kenya held intensive writing workshop

EfD Kenya held a writing workshop from 23rd to 25th June 2014. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together participants of two ongoing EfD-K projects: Increasing block tariffs and the relationship between income and water use in Nairobi, Kenya project and Water sourcing and sanitation in rural Kenya.

4th Annual General Meeting & Conference of the Association of Research Administrators in Africa (ARAA)

The Association of Research Administrators in Africa (ARAA), in partnership with Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), will host the 4th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Association of Research Administrators in Africa (ARAA). The Theme for this year is "Strengthening Regional linkages for Effective Research Administration”. Registration is now open until 15th October, 2013

EfD in Kenya Annual Workshop (2013)

EfD-Kenya held its first Annual Workshop on August 7, 2013 at Fairview Hotel in Nairobi. The workshop brought together researchers, policy makers, academia and other stakeholders in the environment sector.

Forest Tenure Impact Evaluation Workshop

The Environment for Development initiative arranged a Forest Tenure Impact Evaluation Workshop in connection to the World Bank’s annual conference on land and poverty in Washington D.C. on April 18-20, 2011. Recent developments in forest management institutions in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania were reviewed during this workshop, and a potential impact evaluation program for forest tenure reform in East Africa was discussed. The workshop was held on Thursday April 21, 2011 and was open for all conference participants.

EfD Annual Meeting 2017: Information for participants

This year the EfD annual meeting  will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from:  October 27-30, 2017. It is hosted by the Environment and Climate Research Center (EfD - Ethiopia) and the EfD Secretariat. The EfD annual meeting is a forum to bring together researchers from all EfD centers and their collaborators. EfD would also like to attract key stakeholders for exchange of research ideas. Updates for participants will be displayed here.

In loving memory of Wilfred Nyangena

Wilfred Nyangena, Senior Lecturer, School of Economics, University of Nairobi passed away on July  17th, 2017 after a long and brave struggle against cancer. Wilfred did his PhD in Environmental Economics at the University of Gothenburg and on his return to Kenya he became the founder and first director of EfD-Kenya.

Fellowship for Environmental Studies at Duke Kunshan

Duke Kunshan University is now accepting applications for the new international Master of Environmental Policy (iMEP) Program. The iMEP program is a two-year degree offered jointly by Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy and Nicholas School of the Environment.  Students will study core courses in both environmental management and public policy at Duke Kunshan University (China) and Duke University (United States).  We would really appreciate it if you could share this information with people who might be interested.

EfD Kenya paper receives Award from Water Resource Research

The award-winning paper by Fuente et al. (2016) is a product of collaboration  between EfD and Nairobi City Water and Sewer Company. It uses data on household socioeconomic status and metered water use in order to evaluate the distributional incidence of subsidies delivered through the water tariff in Nairobi.

"Time poverty" alleviation received with singing and dancing in Kenya

The EfD research project: Short- and long-term effects of exogenously reducing water collection times on school attendance, hours studying and time use: Meru County, Kenya; involves an experiment to reduce water collection time in a rural area in Kenya. This reduction is an important form of "time poverty" alleviation.
