Subhrendu K. Pattanayak is a Professor of Public Policy, Environmental Economics and Global Health at Duke University. Subhrendu’s research is in two domains: (i) economics of environmental health, and (ii) evaluation of forest ecosystem services. In both cases, he has focused on socially marginal populations, and examined policies that are motivated by inequities and efficiency concerns.
He pursues these issues by collecting survey and household level environmental data and conducting statistical analysis, collaborating with ecologists, epidemiologists, and other social scientists. In order to fund, design, implement, and disseminate results from his research, he has collaborated with policy‐makers in multi‐lateral agencies, national, state, and local governments, as well as NGOs, academics, and local research organizations in Brazil, Costa Rica, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the U.S.
He leads a new multi‐disciplinary initiative at Duke University on household health and energy. He is also a Fellow and faculty member of the South Asian Network of Development and Environmental Economists (SANDEE). He visited IDEA at CATIE from January to July 2015.
